What Are You Thankful For?
The holidays are officially upon us once more. The weather here in New York has finally matched the month that we are currently in. Even though I absolutely love Thanksgiving and Christmas, I’ve noticed something very troubling that started to brew around Halloween leading to these holidays. It happens every year, but each year it arrives earlier, and earlier. This my friends are the nagging advertising of holiday shopping being shoved down your throats at the end of October!
I noticed that holiday shopping commercials on television started around Halloween! Each commercial I watched made me more anxious than the next as I thought, “Oh my God I need to make shopping lists!” “What am I getting my family this year?” You almost feel yourself twitching!!! I also noticed stores were already selling Xmas trees and other holiday items around Halloween. My local mall had their Big Christmas tree displayed and fully decorated along with Santa’s Workshop for family portraits. And the best that tops it all—hearing Christmas music before you get to say what you’re thankful for around the table.
It has been waaaaaay too early for all of this and it makes some of us lose sight of why we celebrate any of these family-oriented holidays in the first place. So I wanted to take a moment of your time, to remind you what the holidays are truly about and what you could be thankful for -- that not only can be thought of during the holidays but for the days that follow after celebrating. Let’s take the time to be kind and nurturing to ourselves and not stress ourselves or each other out. Let’s focus on the core basics that will truly make us happy during this holiday season, afterward. For having tons of money isn’t the answer to world peace. World peace starts with what is centered within you!
The thankful list below can be elements you find yourself and others. This list will help you focus more on what you already have that is more constant/important in your life, and not what is lacking. If you focus more on what is lacking in your life, then you’re letting your ego make you think that materialistic items will bring you joy, and when you can’t acquire them, you’ll turn miserable. It’s healthier to center yourself around all the good that is around you, despite what might be going on in your life.
The importance of this list below is in no particular order. If you come up with more wonderful things to be thankful for, please add to this list. The more the merrier! Have a wonderful, healthy and loving Thanksgiving everyone!
